Science Fiction and Istanbul: The Unexpected Transformations of a Megacity in Local and Global Narratives
As part of the The Story Unfolds in Istanbul exhibition, Jülide Kayaş and N. Can Kantarcı will hold a talk exploring the relationship between Istanbul and science fiction. The discussion will examine how Istanbul has been represented in both local and international science fiction narratives, how these representations have evolved over time, and what similarities and differences emerge across cultural contexts.
Ranging from various Turkish science fiction anthologies to Ian McDonald’s The Dervish House and William Gibson’s Neuromancer, the talk will focus on the ways in which Istanbul has been reimagined through the lens of science fiction—and what drives these imaginative reconstructions.
📅 Saturday, May 24, 4 p.m.
