As part of the The Story Unfolds in Istanbul exhibition, Meşher continues its series of public talks with "Framing Istanbul: Depictions of a Fluid City in Western Literature". The guest speaker for this session is novelist and essayist Kaya Genç, who will delve into the Orientalist frameworks through which European and Anglophone travelers have imagined and represented the city.
Held on 19 June 2025 at 4 p.m. and moderated by Ebru Esra Satıcı, one of the curators of the exhibition, the talk will explore how depictions of Istanbul in Western texts – from 16th- and 17th-century accounts to contemporary narratives – gradually shift from rigid Orientalist constructs to more fragmented and ambiguous portrayals.
